Light and Sound
Light & Sound
πβ¨ All About Sound and Light! π‘β¨
Have you ever wondered how we hear music or see colours? Sound and light are everywhere! They help us communicate, explore, and understand the world. Letβs learn about how sound and light work! π¦πΌ
What Is Sound? π
Sound is made when things vibrate (move back and forth quickly). These vibrations travel in sound waves through air, water, and even solid objects!
β You hear sound with your ears. π
β Loud sounds have big vibrations. π
β Soft sounds have small vibrations. π€
β Sound moves through air at 343 metres per second! π
Did you know? π€ Sound cannot travel in space because thereβs no air!Β
How Do We Hear Sound? π
1οΈβ£ Something vibrates (like a guitar string). πΈ
2οΈβ£ The vibrations travel through the air as sound waves. π¬οΈ
3οΈβ£ Our ears catch the waves and send signals to the brain. π§
4οΈβ£ Our brain understands the sound β like music, speech, or a barking dog! πΆ
Try This!Β Β Put your Fingers on your throat and hum β can you feel the vibrations?
Loud and Quiet Sounds ππ€
Some sounds are loud, and some are soft. This is called volume.
πΒ Loud sounds β Fireworks, sirens, shouting!ππ
π€ Soft sounds β Whispering, a cat purring, rustling leaves.π±π
Too much loud noise can hurt your ears, so be careful with headphones and loudspeakers!Β π§
What Is Light? π‘
Light lets us see! It travels in straight lines as light waves.
β The Sun is our biggest source of natural light. βοΈ
β Light travels really fast β about 300,000 km per second! π
β Light bounces off objects and into our eyes, so we can see. π
β Some objects give off light (like bulbs), while others reflect light (like mirrors). πͺ
Did you know? π€Β The Moon doesnβt make its own light β it reflects light from the Sun! βοΈ
How Do We See Light? π
1οΈβ£Β Light shines from a source (like the Sun or a lamp).
2οΈβ£Β It reflects off objects and into our eyes.
3οΈβ£Β Our eyes send signals to the brain.
4οΈβ£Β Our brain understands what we see!
Thatβs why we see everything around us! πβ¨
Bright and Dim Light π‘π
Some light is bright, and some is dim.
βοΈ Bright light β The Sun, a torch, or Fireworks!Β π
πΒ Dim light β A candle, night-lights, or the stars. β¨
Too much bright light can hurt your eyes, so never stare at the Sun! π
Colours of Light π
Have you ever seen a rainbow?πΒ Light is actually made of different colours!
π΄ π π Red, Orange, YellowΒ
π’ π΅ π£ Green, Blue, Purple
When light passes through a raindrop or a prism, it splits into these colours! β¨
Did you know?Β π€ The sky looks blue because of the way light scatters in the atmosphere! π€οΈ
How Are Sound and Light Different π€
π Light
Travels faster
Can travel in space π
Moves in straight lines
Helps us see
π Sound
Travels slower
Needs air or water to moveΒ Β ππ¨
Moves in waves
Helps us hear
Fun Sound & Light Facts! π€©
β The loudest sound ever recorded was a volcano erupting in 1883! π
β Some animals, like bats and dolphins, use echoes to βseeβ in the dark! π¬π¦
β Light takes just 8 minutes to travel from the Sun to Earth! π
β Fireflies and deep-sea fish can make their own light! π β¨
β The speed of light is almost a million times faster than the speed of sound! π
What Can You Do? π¨π¬
π¨ Draw a rainbow and label the colours!
πCup phone experiment β Connect two cups with string and talk! π₯€π
π‘Make shadows using a torch! πΆοΈ
πClose your eyes and listen to sounds around you β what can you hear?
Sound and light are all around us β and now you know how they work! π‘π
