Health & Safety
Health & Safety
In order that we keep our children safe we would ask all parents to comply with the following:
1. No smoking on the premises. This includes the schoolyard. This complies with the Caerphilly County Borough on smoking.
2. No dogs on the yard. The school can be a very busy place at the beginning and end of the day. We wouldn’t want anyone to be hurt by a dog who was startled. In addition we have a duty to keep the yard area clean, as children play on it every day.
3. All children picked up during the school day should be collected from the School Office please.
4. All parents entering the school should do so through the main front door.
5. All visitors must report to the school office and sign in and out of the signing system.
6. Parents must complete the signing system if a child is late or the leaving School to ensure that we know exactly who is in the building.
Gate Security
Our gates are now fitted with a security lock. You will not be able to enter the school site during the day unless it is opened remotely by the school office.
To gain entry: Press the button on the video entry system that is to the left of the gate. The office will check the video and may either talk to you or open the gate if we know who it is. The system will tell you the gate is unlocked and that you can enter. Listen carefully. Please be patient, staff may be on the telephone or dealing with an issue. They will get to you and will know you are waiting.
When leaving the premises: Press the high green button that is situated on a post on the right-hand side of the path. The system will tell you that you the gate is unlocked. Open the gate as normal. The gate will lock when it closes behind you.
Do not prop the gate open. It is fitted with an alarm and will notify the office if the gate has been propped open and display the video.
During drop off and pick up times the gate will be open, and you will not need to use the intercom to enter now press the green button to exit.
At pick up time: The gates will be unlocked at 3.20pm. Do not enter the premises to wait for children before this time.
Nursery pick up: The locks will be deactivated at 11.25am to allow for Nursery pick up. Do not enter the premises before this time to wait. Please wait until 11.25am to enter the premises.
The gate locks will be activated from 9am every morning.
First Aid and Health Advice
We ensure that a number of our staff have First Aid Qualifications.
There is a designated First Aid station and mobile kits are placed at strategic points around the school. All injuries, however minor, are recorded in an accident book. If there are any issues that arise which cause us concern, then we shall contact you, therefore emergency contact details are vital.
If a child has a bump to the head we will notify you by a phone call or a message at the door depending on the severity of the bump.
There is a defibrillator kept in the school main reception area.
Medicines
We are unable to administer most medicines in school. In particular we are unable to administer Calpol and Antibiotics. If your child is on antibiotics you need to consider whether your child should be in school. If your child has to take medication on a regular basis, e.g. an inhaler, please, contact the head teacher. You will need to give written instructions and permission for medication of this kind to be given.
Head Lice
Head lice are a national problem. Children with head lice can often find it hard to learn as an itchy head continually distracts them.
It is recommended that you comb your child’s hair with a fine-toothed comb when it is wet to check for lice. Conditioner on the hair helps. This should be done at least once a week but more frequently if lice or eggs are found.
Lice are caught through direct hair contact. Tying back long hair will help to minimise the chances of catching them
Nut Free School
We have pupils with severe nut allergies.
These allergies are such that the slightest contact with nuts could be life threatening. We therefore respectfully ask that NO NUTS are knowingly brought onto the premises. This includes peanut butter and Nutella spread which is often popular in lunch boxes
Please do not hesitate to contact the school office if you have any further questions.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
