Safeguarding
Every school must have a Child Protection Policy – often referred to as the school’s Safeguarding Policy. Our policy follows National and Local guidance. The aim of the policy is to ensure that our school has effective measures in place to safeguard our children from any potential risk of harm, and that the safety and wellbeing of the children are of the highest priority in all aspects of the school’s work. Having the policy in place ensures that all members of our school community:
- Are aware of their responsibilities in relation to safeguarding and child protection
- Know the procedures that should be followed if they have a cause for concern
- Know where to go to find additional information regarding safeguarding
- Are aware of the key indicators relating to child abuse
- Fully support the school’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection.

Operation Encompass
Operation Encompass is a police and education safeguarding partnership enabling schools to offer immediate support to children experiencing domestic abuse.
When the police respond to an incident of domestic abuse involving adults of any of our children, Operation Encompass ensures that there is a notification sent to the school. Information is shared with the school’s ‘Key Adult’ prior to the start of the next school day after officers have attended an incident. This sharing of information enables appropriate support to be given, dependent upon the needs and wishes of the child. All information shared is treated with the strictest confidence and any follow up is handled extremely sensitively.
Children are negatively impacted by experiencing domestic abuse and without early intervention and support, this negative impact can last through a child’s life course. Domestic abuse can impact upon social, psychological, physical, emotional and behavioural outcomes with an often negative impact upon a child’s academic success. Experiencing domestic abuse has been identified as an Adverse Childhood Experience.
Operation Encompass aims, by directly connecting police and schools, to secure better outcomes for children, to enable schools to better understand the impact living with domestic abuse has upon children, to help schools to better understand a child’s lived experience and to therefore be able to support and nurture each child, making a child’s day better and giving them a better tomorrow
