RECEPTION, YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2
Parents have obviously noticed there is now an enclosed area outside Mrs Harry’s Class (Year 1) and an extra gate. Several parents have raised their frustrations both to school staff and Parent Governors.
This area has been created for the benefit of the children and in order to keep them safe during the school day. It now enables Mrs Harry to use the outside area throughout the school day and allows children to be safe and well supervised during this time. It has not been put there to intentionally inconvenience parents or to cause problems – it is to benefit and safeguard the children in Class 1.
I recognise it may be an inconvenience but please work together to be courteous and simply take an extra couple of minutes to wait and walk through the area. It would be very beneficial for Mrs Harry’s parents to wait before the first gate for children to be dismissed to you. Please work together and take an extra couple of minutes around this area and understand that it is benefitting the children.
If your child is using or intends to use breakfast club this year, please remember you must complete a new form for this year.
JUNIOR DOOR – END OF THE DAY
In order to reduce congestion, ensure children are collected safely and for confidentiality at the end of the school day, please do not ask to talk to a teacher at the side door.
Please go to the school office and they will happily arrange for you to talk to a teacher at 8.30am or over the telephone – please see the school office staff to arrange an appointment rather than try and discuss matters at the side door at the end of the school day. Teachers are involved in staff meetings every week and also involved in after school clubs and we need to ensure all pupils are safe.
SCHOOL APP – DON’T FORGET!
PLEASE DOWNLOAD AND SIGN UP FOR THE SCHOOL APP via your APP Store. Download “MySchoolApp” and search for Abercarn Primary. Don’t forget to adjust settings within the APP to receive relevant notifications. Further information is within the “Important Letters” Pack.
As you are aware, the Curriculum in Wales will be changing in 2022. Draft curriculum documents are now with schools and we are well on the way with preparing for the new curriculum. We are already beginning to implement changes from this term in order to be well prepared for this considerable change. There will be termly meetings for parents to find out about the Curriculum, become familiar with our approach and to share your opinions, thoughts and provide an input. Pupils were already consulted in Summer Term 2019.
The first of these meetings will take place on WEDNESDAY 18th SEPTEMBER 2019 – 4.30pm in the School Hall. Please attend to find out what is changing here at Abercarn Primary and also the changes to the entire curriculum. It will affect all pupils and it is important you know these changes and are able to give feedback. Please let the office staff know you will be attending.
ONLINE DINNER PAYMENTS
Please remember dinners can only be paid for using the online system / UPay app. We are a cashless dinner payment school. It is important you regularly top up online accounts with sufficient credit. Please don’t absorb the 1p credit added to your child by the authority, this is there as a safety buffer for us.
This week is Week 2
Dinner Menus are on the notice board outside the school but can also be found on the Caerphilly Section of My School Lunch. Simply Goggle – Caerphilly My School Lunch Menu
SCHOOL CLUBS / SPORTS
Details of school clubs and sports will be sent home in the next couple of weeks – Mr Perry will be co-ordinating all school clubs, tournaments and school trips this year and will be the point of contact if parents need to talk about clubs or trips!
You should now have received a pack of important letters.
PLEASE RETURN LETTERS BY FRIDAY 13TH SEPTEMBER 2019
Lots of letters are included in your pack owing to General Data Protection Regulations 2018 (GDPR).
Please note staff may not discuss pupil details over the telephone without first checking whether they are talking to someone with parental responsibility. Please do not be offended by this – they need to check!
It is lovely to see so many children in full school uniform. A big well done to all parents and pupils who made a big effort to ensure pupils look very smart – thank you.
Please ensure uniform has pupils’ names written on the label. Jumpers and cardigans are the most popular item to go missing – please ensure names are on them. We have lost property boxes in the junior cloakrooms for junior children to check.
It is important for children to attend school regularly. We will be chasing parents if pupils have attendance of below 95% and will be contacting the Education Welfare Officer if pupils are not punctual and attendance drops below 90%. Our attendance target for this year is 95% - Attendance forms part of the categorisation criteria of schools – Please help us to achieve well!
78 children had 97% attendance or above last year. All names were put into a draw and I am pleased to announce that Cody F’s mum has won the £50 Amazon voucher.
