Happy Friday everyone! I hope you all had a great week and you are keeping safe and well!

Please continue to help us with Covid. Although we’ve had only one or two cases in the last couple of weeks, we can’t become complacent! Cases are rising in 5-9 year olds across the country. Please be alert!

I will inform parents affected by any cases as soon as I am aware. I’d like to stress that I can’t inform parents if I don’t know. Whats App groups tend to find out information before me and parents are shocked that I haven’t announced anything but if I don’t know, I can’t share the information. Information will be shared to parents on Seesaw and text.

Please wear a face covering when you are on the school site, we provide these for you at the entrance. More and more parents are deciding not to wear them, please do! They will be beneficial especially when it is congested.

Expressive Arts Performances

This week the children have been busy singing and dancing to their Expressive Arts theme. Thank you for wearing some excellent costumes! We’ve had lots of singing and dancing from across the decades 70s, 80s, 90s and 00s. Performances were recorded and will be released shortly for everyone to see! Well, done everyone!

Christmas @ Abercarn Primary

December is fast approaching! As always here is an overview of the festivities here at Abercarn Primary.

Christmas Shows / Photographs

During first two weeks of December, we will be recording our Christmas Shows. We will not have a physical audience again this year as I need to keep the children, staff and community as safe as possible especially as we approach Christmas. We will only record children if permission has been given. If you have not given consent for videos / photographs we will double check with you over the next couple of weeks, we are only checking, there is no pressure.

Christmas Markets

Children will be designing and making items as part of the Science and Technology curriculum. Items can be purchased online using our Trybooking service. We will be sending home details shortly. Children will be designing and making for the first three weeks of December and the items will be sent home around the 15th December 2021. We will also have some items available in our new shop, please keep a look out in the morning and afternoon.

Christmas Jumper Day

Christmas Jumper Day is  Friday 10 December 2021, Children can wear Christmas Jumpers to school.

Christmas Dinner

Christmas Dinner will be served on Wednesday 15th December 2021. Children will eat Christmas Dinner in their usual class sittings with festive music and fun!

Christmas Parties

We will have Christmas class parties also on Wednesday 15th December 2021. Children can wear non-school uniform / Christmas Jumpers or party clothes

Carols

We will record all classes singing Christmas Carols and post these on Seesaw.

End of Term for Christmas

We will finish for Christmas on Friday 17th December 2021 at 1.30pm.

School Telephone

If your child is ill, please leave a message on the absence line, press 1 you do not need to speak to a member of the school office. Also, if you telephone the school and there is no one available to answer your call, please leave a message, we do pick them up!

Don’t forget the most efficient way to contact the office is via email,

We only have one member of staff in the school office most days at the moment so pleae bear with us.

Reminder - Icy conditions routine

Please pass this information to anyone who may drop off / collect children. Now that winter is approaching, we will need to have a routine for dropping off when it is icy. Afternoon collection will not be affected (afternoons remain unchanged) but dropping off will be slightly different! On icy mornings use the gritted areas only and walk slowly on site.

On an icy day you will receive a text in the morning stating that we will have our icy drop off routine! Staff will also be outside helping to re-direct. If you don’t receive a text and staff are not re-directing then it is the usual routine for dropping off. This routine is only for icy mornings only. Remember to always walk on site and only walk on the gritted pathways.

If you receive a text and staff are outside re-directing then the following procedure must be followed:

Breakfast Club

Enter through the Junior door – opens at 8.10am and last entry is 8.35am. Wait in the Year 3 and Year 6 waiting area. Breakfast club staff will be at the Junior door.

Nursery

No change. Walk down to the Nursery gate and drop off like you do now.

Reception

Walk to the front yard and line up on the front yard. Staff will come out to collect children between 8.50 and 9.00am. Please do not play on the yard as although it will be gritted there may still be icy patches. Please wait on the yard until staff arrive. Staff will come back and forth to collect children.  Please bear with us!

Year 1

Drop off at the class door but do not walk down the drive and across the Astro. Walk directly to the door by walking in front of the main entrance. Stay right and walk past any queuing people. Drop off and then exit the way you came in.

Year 2

Walk to the front yard and line up on the front yard. Staff will come out to collect children between 8.50 and 9.00am. Please do not play on the yard as although it will be gritted there may still be icy patches. Please wait on the yard until staff arrives. Staff will come back and forth to collect children.  Please bear with us!

Year 3 – (both classes)

No change – Line up in the usual area and staff will direct children into the building through the Junior door.

Year 4/5 J, H and T (all classes)

Line up in the middle of Year 3 and Year 6. There will be a board for children to wait behind. Do not walk to the classroom doors. Staff will direct children into the building through the Junior door. Please drop off at the main gates rather than walk in with children. This will reduce congestion.

Year 6

No change – Line up in the usual area and staff will direct children into the building through the Junior door.

I understand it will be busy and there will be more people around. In fact, there will be much more congestion but I must try and get all children into school safely, in separate groups whilst also looking after anyone who is on site!

It is really important to wear a face covering especially if there is more congestion on site – please do so and create as much space as possible between you and others.

Foundation Phase Yard

Starting on 6th December 2021 we will be having a massive refurbishment of the Foundation Phase area. We may need to revert to the Icy mornings routine during the refurbishment. Further details will follow when I have met with the builders.

COVID Advice and Sickness

Please do not send your child to school if they are any way unwell! We need to do everything possible to reduce the spread of the virus. If your child is unwell and you are unsure – please keep your child home!

If there is a positive case in your household or someone has symptoms – please do not send children to school. Arrange a PCR test. Children can return to school if a negative PCR test is received. Negative PCR results can be emailed to acnpa@abercarnprimary,.org . A useful chart is attached

If your child has a sickness bug you must keep them off for 48 hours from the last time they were sick. This is Public Health Wales advice. Please do not send your child to school before 48 hours as this is causing the bug to spread and along with COVID it is causing lots of children to be off school. We have enhanced cleaning every day to make sure classrooms are nice and clean, please help us on this matter!

Children in Need and Culture Day

Thanks for participating in Children in Need and culture day last week. We have raised nearly £100 so far!

Any donations you’d like to make can be made online here:

Culture day was France and children enjoyed learning about this Culture! It was lovely to see some fantastic costumes and hear the children speaking French too!
