Happy Friday everyone! Autumn has well and truly set in and the days are getting colder and wetter. I hope everyone is keeping safe and doing well! The children are doing really good here in school and parents should be proud of their efforts. Next week is parent evenings and teachers will share further information with you. You will also receive a Parent Evening mini report. Can I remind everyone to make sure you are connected to Seesaw as there is lovely work being posted and I am also using this to communicate information to the whole school e.g. Covid case alerts.
COVID Advice and Sickness
Please do not send your child to school if they are unwell! We need to do everything possible to reduce the spread of the virus. If your child is unwell and you are unsure, please keep your child home!
If your child has a sickness bug you must keep them off for 48 hours from the last time, they were sick. Please do not send them to school early as this is causing the bug to spread and along with COVID it is causing lots of children to be off school. We have enhanced cleaning every day to make sure classrooms are nice and clean, please help us on this matter!
Current Welsh Government advice is that if your child is identified as a close contact then they do not need to isolate but you are encouraged to arrange a PCR Test on day 2 and Day 8 (Unless you are told something different by a contact tracer). Some parents are deciding to isolate their child / family and as a school we will support your decision. Please continue to let me know of any positive cases outside of school hours by using the email@example.com email address. Please include as much detail as possible. Don’t assume I will find out from others, please drop me a message and I can alert parents as soon as I am aware. This will hopefully help to reduce the spread of the virus.
Harvest Tin in a Bin
We will still not be collecting food donations in the usual way again this year but will still be asking for donations for our local Food Bank in Risca.
Our collection is called “Tin in a Bin”. There will be a big red bin out on the one way stems every morning for parents / pupils to drop / place food items in. It will be placed just past the sanitising stations so the lid of the bin will always be clean. This will allow us to collect and store the items. Please look out for the BIG RED BIN from Monday and please donate some items over the next few weeks. Food banks have been used more than over during this pandemic and they are very grateful for the donations received. Please make sure items are in date and sealed. Urgently required items are: tinned fruit (400gms), tea bags (80's), dried pasta (500gms) and Breakfast Cereals. Thank you so much for your support.
Last entry to Breakfast Club is 8.35am. We cannot admit any child after this time.
As we are a cashless school, we will now be taking payment for fruit via trybooking (while we wait on UPAY functionality to be established). We have paid for fruit for the past several months but now need to reintroduce contributions. In order to make the system workable we have decided to take a single payment for the whole half term (1st Nov until 17th Dec 2021).
THE COST OF FRUIT FOR THE WHOLE HALF TERM IS £6.00
This price is set to reflect that your child might be off for holidays/illness during the period. This will save the need for refunds to be issued.

Items made in our Expressive Arts topic will be available to purchase via our online “Trybooking Service”. Details will follow next week!
Flu immunisation is Tuesday 5th October 2021. The health board will ensure that only children with consent are vaccinated. If you do not give consent clearly indicate this on the form.
Curriculum 2022 and Assessment
As a school we are proud of the preparation we have undertaken in readiness for September 2022 regarding Curriculum and Assessment changes. All staff have worked exceptionally hard to prepare and get ready for this massive change in education. Over the next few months, we will be holding a series of Curriculum and Assessment virtual events. It will be really important to attend as many as possible as we will be sharing important developments and will outline our assessment strategy for this year and September 2022 onwards. As well as the curriculum, assessment is changing and it will be important for parents to understand and be part of these changes. When events are advertised, please attend!
End of Term
End of the first half term of the year will be Wednesday 20th October 2021 at 3.30, We have the first of our INSET days on 21st and 22nd, School will be closed to pupils on these days.
MacMillan Cancer Support
Thank you for your support for MacMillan this week and thank you to Mrs Watson for baking and selling cakes from our Shed Shop. We raised over £250.00, Well done!

Head Boy (Child) and Head Girl (Child)
Congratulations to Ethan B and Maisie YJ for being voted as our Head children for this year. Congratulations to Harry D and Lily O for being voted in as our Deputy Head children this year! Photos will follow! A big well done to all other children who put themselves forward, all speeches were fantastic! Everyone should be proud!

Menu, Menu Choices and Natasha’s Law
There will be a new menu after half term. Menus were sent home this week.
PLEASE COMPLETE MENU CHOICES for every day. Please complete the menu choices in detail. Please complete even if your child does not regularly have dinners. Return form to school with your child’s name clearly visible. We have received several forms with no names.
Meals are no longer served in classrooms or boxes. They are severed in the hall and on trays, we are therefore complying with Natasha’s Law. If any allergen or intolerance information changes with your child – please make sure both the school and Caerphilly Catering are aware.
