As you are all aware, Mrs Harry is pregnant and due to start her maternity leave in January 2021. However, due to COVID-19 and the potential risks to pregnant mothers from 28 weeks onwards, following a detailed risk assessment Mrs Harry will need to work from home from after half term. Therefore, her final day with the children will be Wednesday 21st October 2020.
I know some parents may be upset at the short notice but we have been very busy over the past few weeks trying to find the best and the right teacher to cover Mrs Harry. We have observed over 10 candidates and believe we have chosen an excellent teacher. We are pleased to announce that Miss Jodie Davies will be the new teacher from after half term until next July. Jodie's personal strengths include her friendly, energetic and approachable personality. These characteristics allow her to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for learners where they feel comfortable. Her specialist subject is mathematics and she has worked in several schools within Caerphilly and South East Wales with excellent references. Jodie has completed additional training in Safeguarding, Read, Write, INC, Team Teach and Autism Awareness. Miss Davies will be in school on Tuesday with Mrs Harry and the children and we will make sure during drop off and collection times she is around to meet parents. She will also join us for the INSET days so a detailed handover can take place.
Mrs Harry will support the new teacher in Year 1 and undertake all Additional Learning Needs (ALNCo) work until she starts her maternity after Christmas. She will complete this from home virtually although she may be in school once a week but will always remain 2m apart from everyone, in PPE and have no face to face contact with the children or parents.
I am in no doubt you all will welcome Miss Davies to our school community!
