GROWTH MINDSET PARENT WORKSHOP

On Thursday 21st September 2017 at 5pm in the School Hall, we will be having a parent workshop on Growth Mindset. We are doing lots with Growth Mindset here at school and I really hope that you can support the work in school. The session will be to inform you what Growth Mindset is and demonstrate how you can support this initiative. All parents are welcome. Please help us plan for the number of parents by telephoning the school office. Please attend if at all possible.

BE ON TIME

School starts at 9am. Doors open at 8.50am. Please ensure children are in school between 8.50am and 9am. The Education Welfare Officer will be patrolling school and will challenge parents of pupils who are late. Please be on time! If children are continually late, please expect to hear from us!

END OF SCHOOL

A gentle reminder to parents in the Foundation Phase – School finishes at 3.30pm. Children need to be collected at this time. On many occasions last year, several children were consistently still in school after 4 o’clock! Whilst I understand there may be difficulties at times, if children are continually collected late I will need to take further action. Please could I also ask that you make us aware of any changes to people collecting children in the Foundation Phase? If we do not know the person collecting the child, we will not let them leave! Please let us know!

Please could I also ask for children to refrain from playing with the play equipment when leaving the school premises and also not ride scooters / bikes on school premises – please wait until you are outside the school gates. Lots of equipment is being moved / kicked around!

WRAP AROUND and AFTER SCHOOL PROVISION

Little Stars Abercarn wraparound provision for nursery children is available at school until 3.30pm – anyone interested , please contact Kelly Podmore on 07541 134564 or call and see her between 11.30-3.30pm. They are based in our Nursery building! There is also an after school provision until 5.30pm – available to all children attending Abercarn Primary. The cost would be £6 per session and it is available Monday to Friday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm. If you are interested, please contact Kelly!

ABSENCE LINE

If your child is absent, please use the absent line (Press 1 from the menu given). We will pick up your message. An increasing number of parents are wanting to speak to someone in the office to report an absence. The office is extremely busy especially at the start of the school day! Reporting absences using the absence line will help greatly!

BREAKFAST CLUB

Don’t forget our Breakfast Club runs daily from 8.10am. Children are provided with a healthy breakfast and lots of games are available. This also helps with children being in school on time!

PARENT CURRICULUM AND WELL BEING GROUP

I would like to establish a parent group to explore curriculum and wellbeing issues etc. I would like the group to meet with me once a term. If interested, please telephone the school office and leave your name with Mrs Farmer / Mrs Eynon.
